2022's Greatest FIlm Legacy

Published on 8 January 2023 at 19:00

2022 was a year to remember. With the start of a new year, as resolutions are made, motivation flourishes and goals are strived towards, it’s natural to now be looking to the future. But right now, just for a moment, I’m asking you kindly to reflect on the past with me.

Whether it be a wedding, getting your first pet, or simply discovering your favourite book yet, it’s undeniable that 2022 brought many memories that will be cherished forevermore. And alongside this, we were also gifted with some incredible films, books and more… but one film really takes the cake.

‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’.

You may be wondering what it’s about, and in summary, it’s about a woman trying to complete her taxes. And… also about a multiverse centred around a giant bagel that contains everything, everywhere, all at once. Which, you’re thinking, makes no sense - and the beauty of it all is that’s the point! Designed to make you confused beyond belief, satisfy you with total clarity and then turn the lights straight back off, this film had it all. From hilarious comedic moments such as the ‘fanny-pack fight’, to tear-brimming silent scenes about rocks (yes, rocks!) discussing the meaning of life, ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ had all the qualities of a film that won’t be quickly forgotten.

Starring Michelle Yeoh as the unlikeable anti-hero Evelyn and Stephanie Hsu as the complex, misunderstood Joy Wang/Jobu Tupaki, the film has earnt an impressive 8.1/10 on IMDB, a commendable 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, and the fabulous box office of 103.7 million USD. The action/sci-fi/adventure masterpiece was rated by many critics as the best film of 2022, a deserving title for 2022’s greatest film legacy.

So, if you haven’t managed to catch a viewing of ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ yet, don’t worry. It’s easily accessible and can still be found in select cinemas, or from the comfort of your own home on Amazon Prime.

Now, enough of the past. My moment’s up - I’ll let you get back to focusing on the future. As long as that future now includes a watch of ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’.
